Discipline isn’t what I’m here to talk about. Discipline is what happens AFTER a problem has already occurred. I’m here to talk about strategies to prevent problems BEFORE they ever have a chance to happen.
It’s a bit of a mindset shift as parents- let’s prevent the problem behavior from happening and avoid that whole discipline thing altogether. We won’t need it as often when we provide the right positive behavior supports and catch our kids being good!
How about trying some simple consistent language, of “First, Then”?
